• Obtain results with a small number of participants

• Test with current and/or potential users

• Test actual website/ product

• Watch users navigating through specific tasks

Weaknesses
• Conducted in a controlled environment. Users do not use their own computer

• Internet access speed may not match what users have

• Users may spend more time reading instructions than would otherwise
